Welcome to my review of the year 2006.

Here you will find my thoughts on the music,
the movies, the television, the news
and more of the year.

Let's start with the music.

Top five albums of 2006 were:

1. Rock Did It - Dirty Rig

2. The Black Parade - My Chemical Romance

3. A Blessing And A Curse - Drive-By Truckers

4. Nicotine Queen - Dead End Jane

5. A Light In The Dark - Metal Church

As expected, the mighty Dirty Rig's debut was the strongest release of the year. This is the kind of album that could herald the return of rock 'n roll as the "pop music" of our culture. But then again I am not sure that is a good thing. I kind of like my rock 'n' roll oozing from the underground and sneaking out of the back alley..... So-called "emo-rockers" My Chemical Romance surprised me. Not only did I get a great new band to listen to in the vein of Queen, ELO and Cheap Trick (the kind of stuff I would like to see as today's "pop music") but I got to listen to all the "real rock fans" tell me how much they suck just like they used to tell me how much  Queen, ELO and Cheap Trick sucked. LOL! Live and let rock, I always say..... My Southern Rock fix was satisfied by my discovery of the Truckers. These guys are often called the greatest band in the world and that may well be true in many ways..... Another sign that hard rock may be the future is Dead End Jane, a great AC/DC styled rock band that I just discovered in the last couple weeks of the year. Watch for them in 2007..... And of course, Metal Church can always deliver. David Wayne is missed, of course, but the new singer gives it a good effort and helps keep Metal Church high up on my list of all time best metal bands.

Choosing five bands from MySpace is hard because there are so many great bands there. But I did it anyway! LOL! In no particular order...

Elwood Grace
The Snakehandlers
J.R. Castro
Miss Crazy
The Joystix

Now there are probably two bands on MySpace that if you know me, you are wondering why I did not list them on my Top 5... Well, that is because they are both getting special treatment right here:

TinFoil Fuse has the distinction of not only being a great MySpace band, but also one of my favorite local bands. Now you may be thinking there's no competition for them locally since we all know I live in Nowheresville, but that is actually not true. There are many great bands around and also represented on MySpace, but the Fuse beats them all.

Another area that seems to have a great metal scene is West Virginia. But the band there that stands out is Stone Ka-Tet. Check them out (as well as all these great bands) on MySpace! (Okay, I guess I didn't really pick just five MySpace bands after all...)

Now let's review the world of politricks...

Things went relatively well in the 2006 elections considering our only choices were politicians. LOL! But I have to wait on expressing any real optimism until we see some results. Last year I said this to the voters and this year I say it to those elected...

PLEASE DO NOT SCREW AROUND!

Vote and MAKE IT COUNT! The first 100 hours is just the beginning! We'll be watching...

I'm tired of George W. Bush using my hard earned money to murder and maim while he turns his back on the starving, the sick and those truly in need.

The madness has to end. We got you there. Now end it.

Top five movies of 2006:

1. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
2. Beerfest
3. Talladega Nights: The Ballad Of Ricky Bobby
4. V For Vendetta
5. Monster House

Top five TV shows of 2006:

1. Lost
2. Heroes
3. Jericho
4. My Name Is Earl
5. CSI: Miami

Late night talk show host of the year...
Craig Ferguson of course!

Writer of the year...
Dean Koontz

Now let's take our annual look at
the state of justice in America...

Leonard Peltier spent another year in jail as America's most universally recognized political prisoner. Despite the support of millions of people worldwide and organizations like Amnesty International, Peltier is still held for a crime it is extremely likely he did not commit and definitely was never proven he committed.

The West Memphis Three spent another year behind bars as the wheels of justice slowly turn and everyone throws everything they can into the path of truth. Why is everyone so afraid to do the things that need to be done to see if these boys are really guilty? I think we all know the answer to that one deep down inside.
