Sinistar,
No they never did anything. I was calling them the Nameless Wonders because they wouldn't pick a name but now I call them the Nameless Blunders. The bass player fell off the wagon and is back in rehab and the drummer got married and the new wife will not let him "stay out late". Everyone else seems to just never have time for the band.

Tony,
Robertson's Good Rare Wine was a band that was basically the creative entity used by Bob Scott. Sadly, Bob passed away a few years ago not too long after the release of the CD. (I love the song "Good Boys" and hopefully will be able to get permission to use it if I ever get my screenplay written and my movie made.)

Subject: Tommy Redd Rocks!
I grew up listening to Nantucket. I got to see them for the first time in 1982 when I was 16 at Millbrook High School. I worked in a grocery store and Larry Uzzell had given me the tickets. (A few years later, I started hanging out at the Switch and was amazed at how approachable the guys from the band were.
Tommy was out at a show my husband's band was playing. He made my husband's band feel so good when he said they had the energy that he hadn't seen in a local club since the days of CBGB's. The Moans decided to learn some Nantucket just for Tommy. This past Friday night, Tommy came out and played Born In A Honky Tonk with them. It was the most incredible experience for the band, for the crowd and especially for me! Tommy was amazed at how good it sounded! If you closed your eyes, it could have been Nantucket playing!
I found out that night that Tommy's band had been asked to fill in for a cancellation in another club that night. Tommy sent his band in to play and said he'd be there after he lived up to what he had promised me! Not only is Tommy a great musician, but he is a great person! I know that The Moans and I will never forget what he did for us Friday night!
People were asking for his autograph and one girl called me and said people were offering her money for it! Tommy is so down to earth, he doesn't realize just how much him and Nantucket really meant to a lot of people. Rock On Tommy!

Subject: IMPORTANT MESSAGE -- PLEASE READ
A few folks have e-mailed me concerned about some recent posts that were allowed to remain for awhile that they felt did not meet the "appropriate post" guideline.
First, let me say that I do not have the time right now to "edit" the board daily so unless a post is offensive, I will probably let some "inappropriate" posts remain until next time I am updating the site which can sometimes be a couple of weeks. Offensive posts (spam, rude, profane, etc.) will be removed as quickly as possible.
Second, let me point out that I do not have hard and fast rules here. Basically, posts should relate in some way to Nantucket and should be polite. If you want to post about another band or talk about movies or comics or anything related to other aspects of rockshoppe.com, there is a separate board for that.
I made this board to be specifically about Nantucket. If a post is made that leads to another topic that is not Nantucket related, it will be allowed within reason but generally the focus should stay on Nantucket / PKM / current and former members. I don't want everyone having to be super-careful about what they say here but if we all use common sense, then things should go smoothly.
Thanks! Let's all hope some more shows are announced soon!

I am 41 years old, a musician [guitar player/singer], and ........a devoted Nantucket fan/supporter. I began guitar lessons in 1974, started my first band in 1975, played [for what it was worth] Kiss, Cheap Trick, "early" AC/DC, Hendrix, Who, Deep Purple, Frampton, Nugent, etc.......
In/around 1979/80, I, along with my bandmates, attended a New Year's Eve show in Greensboro, N.C. [coliseum], featuring KISS, with Nantucket as the opening act. Bottom Line....they [Nantucket] changed my life.
They were local, [from N.C.], their music was different, moving, and inspiring. Not wishing to speak for everyone; however [personally], I was always a firm believer that, in order to capture an audience, you must accomplish the following:
*play music that has soul/feel/beat/etc.. *connection with crowd [male/female]!!!!! *have the "David Lee Roth" attitude/showmanship. *play as if every night is your last!
In short....these guys are true showmen. Their material is great, their show is great, and I [personally] have been, and will always be, a loyal fan.
[FYI]: From 1979-1986, I was in a band [5 members/throughout time period, 3 names...."Papa Doc"/"Dillinger"/"The Zoo"{I was not in "The Zoo"}].
During this period, it was common practice that major acts would play local clubs. In doing so, they would be booked with a local [N.C.] band, which had sufficient sound/lighting equipment. We, at his time, were signed to CMC Agency out of Raleigh [at first]. We then signed with Showtime Booking Agency out of Raleigh [operated by Mike Uzzell/formerly of Nantucket].
At any rate, even though I realize that they don't remember, all of the aforementioned experience[s] with Nantucket, etc....are very much treasured.

I see how it is, everyone is going to make me pack up the car and head down there to see a reunion show. Chances of them getting up here to Yankeeville (Michigan) are slim I'm sure.
Also, there is a guy selling Your Face or Mine and Long Way To The Top cd's on e-bay. From the add it doesn't appear to be home made cd's. Have these been "officially" released yet? I heard rumor they were possibly being released. Any updates?

June 26th Cocktails and Diamonds Sneads Ferry NC w/ opening act tba....beach trip.
June 27th. early show at Martin St. Music Hall downtown Raleigh w/ two opening bands tba. We will go on at 8pm so this is an early all ages show, designed to start nurturing a new generation of metal heads and also to get the older "semi retired" rockers a chance to get out and still get home early. The whole thing will be over by 9:30 or 10. Mark this one down as a must see. If it works out, Sunday matinee shows at this great venue may become a regular thing.
July 2nd. McKinleys in Clayton. Start the long weekend out on a high note!!!!! opening act tentatively Marble Top Box. Great band, female vocalist. There could be a Bennett brothers sighting!!!!!
July 10th Kagneys in Fayetteville with a Journey tribute band. I'm calling this one "Freddy Krueger meets Mr. Rogers" .Kagneys is a really nice club with incredible sound and lights, free admission for the ladies, and shares the building with an upscale "gentlemens" club. Something for everyone.
July 31st. We return to Sidelines in Garner. The closest thing to The Switch only smaller. Spandex and nipple sightings have been reported.
August 7th we return to Salty Dawg in New Bern. This place rocks hard, a venue not for the faint of heart. We love it.

This si in response to Casey's post about seeing them in every venue in N.C. The first time I saw Nantucket was at the recreation center on Henderson Drive in Jacksonville, N.C. in 1972? It's hard to remember. They also used to play at a place called River City in Jacksonville and I got hooked on them when they did a version of RocknRoll Hootchie Coo. It was a bar as well and I had to sneak in.I was probably 12 or 13. They were my first rock band I saw live that ever went anywhere. They were HUGE in Jacksonville in the 70's! I grew up in the same neighborhood as the Uzzells and I got to see them on occasion down on Topsail Island.

Subject: Favorite Nantucket moment
After visiting this site i got to thinking about one of my favorite concert moments. I remember going to a Nantucket concert in Asheville, NC. Nantucket was on tour supporting their second album. Now i call it a Nantucket concert but KISS was the headliner but to me it was a Nantucket concert, i was'nt the biggest KISS fan. Nantucket comes on and completly and totally rocks the place had us all in the palms of their hands. After they close their set with "Is it wrong to rock and roll" I start making my way to the exit. My friends start asking me "hey where you going KISS is coming on" I told them i saw what i came to see, and this was a 35 dollar ticket, alot of money for a 17 year old in 1979. So i hit the exit and go to the local pool hall and wait for my friends to get out of the KISS part of the show. Well they show up not too long after me ,about an hour, and i ask about the rest of the show. And they tell me "you were right" after Nantucket, KISS was a huge letdown. And according to my friends at least half the people were heading for the exits after about 15 minutes of KISS. Seems like the boys raised the bar too high for KISS on that particular night. But even though KISS drove the ticket price up for that show, it was well worth the 35 bucks just to catch the boys on this night. At the time 35 dollars was more than twice than i had ever paid for a concert ticket. I caught Nantucket several times in Asheville, anyone on here ever make to any of the Asheville shows?

It's always great to hear about cool vinyl out there! Keep in mind with the CD's you can get them directly from Wounded Bird cheaper than you can find them anywhere else plus they have many other cool CD's! I linked their site again so just click on their name and order away! So far, only the first Nantucket album has been released but others will soon follow.
I couldn't agree more that we need to all call the radio stations out there. It really bugs me that the only time I hear any Nantucket on the radio is when I go to Michigan of all places!
Getting the band to play the Midwest would probably require that they could gigs in several places. Otherwise I would expect it would be too costly. But if we could start getting them consistent airplay from coast-to-coast maybe they could do a complete US tour! And maybe a new album...
(This message board shows Nantucket has support. I do next to nothing to promote it and yet still the fans find their way here. That shows that people out there are looking for Nantucket on the Web and still love the band!)
On a personal note, due mainly to being completely broke I didn't make it to the Swansboro and Atlantic Beach shows. I'm really bummed but hopefully we will get more shows this summer.

Hi Guys, Thought I would share this with all you vinyl fans out there. I found all of Nantuckets LP's yesterday at this really cool record store in my new hometown of Chattanooga. It is called "Chads Records". I have been buying vinyl for 30 years and this is one of the best places i have ever been to, needless to say i will visit this place on a regular basis. Three of the Nantucket albums were still factory sealed, original stickers and all. I only paid 12 dollars for the Nantucket albums, but ended up spending 47 dollars total for 27 albums. The covers and vinyl are in near mint condition. But of course i am keeping my eye open for the re-release of the Nantucket albums on cd. I know Wounded Bird has released them but I have'nt seen them on the shelves yet. If anyone here is intrested in finding a particular piece of vinyl, let me know and i will look for it the next time i go record shopping. Which will be very soon and i plan to go often. Probably once a week at least.

I've been a huge Nantucket fan since 1977, My first Nantucket concert was in Raliegh, with Nantucket, Black Oak Arkansas, and Mother's Finest. I have all the original albums, and even had them converted to cd, last year. I don't want to take anything away from Nantucket, but I understand from Mike Gardner, that if enough interest was shown, that they may re-release the PKM album on cd. I also heard that their are three unreleased songs. I know myself and a few other Raliegh natives would love to have this in their collection. So anyone who Knows Peewee, Kenny, or Mike please urge them to re-release the album, and the three unreleased tracks.

Hey everybody, just wanted to share my two cents on Nantucket. I first heard them on a station out of Roanoke Virginia in 1978. Heartbreaker was the tune, and I was hooked. They came to the Civic Center in either Roanoke or Salem Virginia that summer with Cheap Trick and AC/DC. My Dad made me pull tobacco that night, so I could not go, but all my buddies rode by the field on the way yelling to me that they were going and I was not. Of course they came back saying it was a incredible show. I saw them many times over the years, and one of my bands The Cain Razers opened for them at the Jade Elephant in Richmond years ago. They let me up on stage to sing with Larry and play drums on "Long Way" What a great bunch of guys and awesome musicians. I have the first album on CD, and look forward to getting all or most of them in the future. Peace.

Subject: Just a Hi to fellow Nantucket Fans
Hi Guys...been a fan for over 25 years..I remember the days of the Attic, Switch, and Roadies in Goldsboro. Had the great fortune to meet and know the members of the band. They were always good to me and I remember so many fun nites with them. For two years I traveled around following them and supporting them. Its nice to know that so many people are still there supporting them. I talk to Mike on a regular basis. We have stayed in contact all these years. He is doing well and is the same great funny guy he has always been. He is trying very hard to book some dates this summer. So keep checking here and if he lets me I will let all the fans know where. Just hang tight and maybe we will all be able to dance to them boys again..

Man I couldn't find anything on Nantucket,...until I came across this site. I was starting to feel like all of us "older" people had been forgotten. I'm 42 and my fondest memories involve putting on my Nantucket album full blast (When Mom was gone of course) and pretending I was right there with the band! Man,....if I could buy back time. Anyway, thanks for this site. You've made my day.

today is my day off and instead of being productive (i.e., cleaning house, doing laundry...) i decided to just sit and listen to some old albums. i pulled out my (only) nantucket album (my only one because my step-brother permanently borrowed the other one when we were teens)and cranked up the volume. what great music!! i started searching the web for info on these guys and found this site and a few others. i saw them in concert when i was in jr. high school and they played in boiling springs, nc, at gardner-webb college. i think i still have their autographs tucked away. i'd love to see them again and would gladly drive back to nc to see them. if anyone knows of any upcoming shows please email me and let me know!!

Hi Kelly! Wounded Bird plans to release both of the remaining Sony LP's at some point so we should see not only "Long Way To The Top" but also "Your Face Or Mine"!
By the way, two interesting albums that just came out on Wounded Bird are the Danny Joe Brown Band's album that Danny Joe put out during the time he wasn't with Molly Hatchet and Buck Dharma's "Flat Out", the solo record from Blue Oyster Cult's guitarist.

The band doesn't really have a name yet. If you are from NC, SC or Va you might have heard of some of the bands the guys have been in but I don't know if they want me to say. They want to be recognized for they are doing now or some crap. Anyway, some of the stuff they cover is AC/DC, Def Leppard, Scorpions, Boston, Foreigner, Aldo Nova, Billy Squire, Wet Willie, Atlanta Rhythm Section, Starbuck, Pablo Cruise, Triumph and some others I can't think of right now. They do some original too. They would fit perfect with Nantucket.

Hi Zach! As far as how to reach Nantucket, I'm afraid I can't help you there. When I used to "manage" a band, we would sometime talk to the management at the venue to see if we could get opening slots for some bands, but you have to know where the band is playing for that to work.
So tell us about the band. Do they have a name? Anyone in the band that we might be familiar with? What other songs do they play? Any originals?

Hey, I don't know if this is a good place to put this but I have some friends in a band that I think should be playing somewhere that people can see them. They cover a couple of Nantucket songs ("Born in a Honkytonk" and "Is It Wrong to Rock & Roll") and would be a great opener for them. Any idea how they might be able to set that up? So far they have only played in the bass players backyard shed, but they really are good. Most of these guys have been playing 15-20 years and all have played in club bands before.

Like many others, I just found out the first cd has been released. Fan-freakin-tastic. I have been a HUGE fan since seeing them in Fayettville N.C. opening for Foreigner. I moved to Michigan and saw them open for the Romantics at the old Punch & Judy. I have that show on cassette tape. I moved to Charleston S.C. and caught them at the Hayloft. What a GREAT group, especially live. I did come across the Live After All These Years cd. If you don't have it, you are missing out on classic Nantucket. I am back up here in Michigan and dying to see another show, even if it means a roadtrip. Anyone knowing anything about an appearance, I am all ears. P.S. If you find the PKM cd, it too is well worth snagging!!!!

I was just surfing at the Wounded Bird site and see they have now added Nantucket to the "coming soon" list. Hopefully this means we will soon see more Nantucket! I also see Danny Joe Brown (of Molly Hatchet) is also on the list. Can't wait for that one either as I consider his album a lost classic of Southern Rock!

I was literally browsing the record store today and stumbled upon Nantucket's first album on CD... all the way in sunny Southern California. Hi everyone! I'm glad to see so many fans posting here. It's good to know there are still people out there who appreciate great rock 'n' roll!
A quick word about the CD release of the debut LP... I recently saw a seller on eBay listing the CD as a "limited release" and when I asked about it the seller claimed that he received a tear sheet from Wounded Bird that said the CD was limited to one pressing and was deleted as soon as it was released. I checked with Terry at Wounded Bird and he assured me this was a lie and that Wounded Bird licenses CD's for years. So if you see anyone posting this false info or hear anyone saying it, be sure to straighten them out! The CD is here to stay! And I would like to suggest everyone order it direct from Wounded Bird and tell them we want the rest of the albums released on CD!!!
Now I gotta go listen to a certain CD again...

I first saw Nantucket on a bill with Cheap Trick and AC/DC in Fayettville circa the late 70s. I've seen them many times since but never at a large show like that. Tommy Redd still plays fairly frequently down here on the NC coast with both the Boogie Chillin's and Soul Daddies. He always has a good war story or three to share about the early Nantucket days and the tour with AC/DC.

I'm from Jacksonville, NC and have been a fan from way back. I remember them back in an early incarnation of the Stacks of Gold and they used to rehearse in my neighborhood. I have a copy of all their albums and would have ripped them to CD but don't have a turntable anyone. It would be excellent to have them all released on factory CDs and mastered for that medium. I do have an original CD of the Live show taped in Raleigh, NC which was in 1996. I know there is a big demand for their catalogue. I have alot of friends from the area that have moved out of state and when we start reliving the past, Nantucket always comes up. Here's hoping they release more than just the first album on CD! :)

I'm a Nantucket fan from way back--1st lp. I remember when they used to rehearse on West St in Raleigh in a building they rented. They could have--and SHOULD have been the equivalent of Bon Jovi--but for some reason unknown to me and most any of their fans--they were denied. I hate it--for the members of Nantucket--but more for the people who were never given the priviledge of hearing their music and seeing them perform live. Thanks Sinistar for having this site. If you get the CD release--get 2 and share with someone. Maybe we can get a reunion thing going--would be a shame not to share good music with the ones less forunate to have never heard them.

I was hoping for special deluxe editions with bonus tracks and extensive liner notes and rare photos, but at least it is finally on CD! You can order this through Amazon and other online venues or get it at your local music shop (though you may have to special order it) but I recommend ordering direct from Wounded Bird. Yes, I'm an old (I mean old) Nantucket Fan. Most of the messages I read were from the mid 80's, and I first discovered Nantucket when they were Nantucket Sleighride. They played "Super Tuesday" at the Ramada Inn in Apex, NC in 1975 or 76. Then, when I went to ECU in Greenville in '76, my roommate re-introduced me to the band. It seems her older sister was a very good friend of "Famous Eddie" Blair. So we became groupies! We saw them in the Attic at Greenville, the Treehouse in Charlotte, some place in Rock Hill, SC (road trip!), Raleigh, we went on spring break to Wilmington, NC and saw them 2-3 nights, Peabody's in Virginia Beach, etc. We had nicknames for all of them, and I was madly in love with Mike. Back then, I believe they had a manager by the name of Jet Matthews. Unfortunately, I had to move to Texas before they signed their big deal. But they came to Houston in 1979 or 1980 with ACDC. I called up the Nantucket office and Jet arranged tickets for us. My friends were totally impressed! It was a great time in my life, which I shall never forget and they were and I'm sure still are, a great group of guys. Rock on!

Anyone know how I could get up with anyone from Nantucket? I used to play them and interview them and party with them when I worked for Z96 WZLD in Columbia. I've got a couple of good Nantucket stories including a Tommy Redd story when we were partying in the Knights Inn at the Bush River bypass in Columbia. Some completely DRUNK guy kept insisting that Tommy looked like someone he knew that played in Nantucket. No matter how many times Tommy tried to tell the knucklehead that he did, in fact, play for Nantucket, the guy kept saying, "Naw, man, you aren't Tommy Redd, you just look like him." I know Tommy remembers...it was one of the funniest things I ever saw.
