Welcome to my tribute page for Chris Poland and his band Damn The Machine. As you may or may not know, Chris Poland is the former guitarist for Megadeth, having played on the Killing Is My Business and Peace Sells albums. After leaving the pioneering thrash metal superstars, he teamed up with brother Mark to release an instrumental solo album. Following that, he formed the band Damn The Machine (also featuring brother Mark) and released one album. Though one might expect a former Megadeth guitarist to follow in Megadeth's rather heavy footsteps, he instead opted for a more progressive though still extremely guitar oriented style. Fans of Rush, Queensryche and Dream Theater were more likely to be drawn to Damn The Machine and Chris' solo work than were fans of Megadeth.
While these albums differed from Megadeth in many ways, there were some striking similarities. First, there was no denying that anything Chris was involved with featured intense and innovative guitar. Showcased more prominently on the solo release, Chris' playing was an integral part of Damn The Machine as well. Secondly, Damn The Machine's work showed an awareness and concern for the state of the world similar to that of Megadeth's lyrical message. Though Chris' solo release was instrumental, a glance at the track listing reveals that similar subjects were still on his mind.
This tribute page focuses on only a thin slice of Chris Poland's career. He is still actively making music. To find out the latest on Chris and his new band Ohm, visit the Chris Poland site. Chris also recently returned as a guest player on Megadeth's The System Has Failed. If anyone has any information on anything else that Chris is working on, please feel free to e-mail me at sinistar@rockshoppe.com. I would encourage everyone to seek out a copy of Damn The Machine's album, though it might be a bit tricky to find.
